Tecumseh/Quivera Drainage Improvements

In 2009 Bartlett and West contracted with SMH Consultants to assist with the Tecumseh/Quivera Drainage Improvement Project in Manhattan, Kansas.  SMH’s roles involved topographic surveying of the entire proposed alignment in addition to design of about one-third of the alignment.  The project will greatly enhance drainage in one of Manhattan’s largest drainage basins, the Downtown West Watershed and is valued at nearly $6M.  The greatest challenge associated with the project was finding a solution to the problem that didn’t intrude into the existing and surrounding neighborhood.  The project is essentially located in the heart of the City which also presented numerous utility coordination issues including the redesign of a major sanitary sewer trunk that parallels the drainage.   This project will be a vast improvement to the area and protect property owner’s personal belongings to a much great extent than the existing system that is currently in place.
